MPSA and the IPSC shooters from Thurmont and the surrounding area
proudly sponsored a stage at the Thurmont 2007 SASS NE Regional cowboy
match (The Mason-Dixon Stampede). In the words of Jeff Cooper:

"I do not shoot skeet, but I am vitally interested in the freedom of skeet shooters
to enjoy their sport. I do not hunt woodchuck, but I am vitally interested in the
right of chuck hunters to take to the field. I do not shoot in ISU competition,
but I am vitally interested in the continuance of formal target shooting. Perhaps
more pungently, I have little interest in hand-held automatic weapons, but I deeply
resent the effort on the part of some of our lawmakers to paint full-automatic fire
as some sort of a sin.

"To the degree that we perpetuate the position, 'This is a sporting firearm,
that is a weapon,' we work to destroy ourselves.

"As our civilization urbanizes, and more and more of our young people never set
foot off pavement, much less clean a fish, we can no longer take for granted that
our youth naturally and automatically understand the traditions which gave us
this country, and which we must maintain if we wish to keep it. Those traditions
must be passed on to the young, and they may not be divided up into so many
compartments that we shooters can no longer tell our friends from our foes.

"These may be different breeds, but they are united by a common interest, and
only by understanding that they are of one brotherhood will it be possible for us
to survive in a world in which the image of the shooter is becoming suspect."

These words from 20 years ago still ring true in our ears, perhaps more than ever.
Hold out our hand in friendship for your fellow shooter even if, especially if,
his sport is not your sport.

NOTICE: Thurmont members are STRONGLY encouraged to download
a copy of the Range Rules and keep them with you while practicing.

During testimony in support of HB 228 (the 2007 CCW Shall Issue
bill for Maryland), a nice little grandmother who had been previously
mugged stated that she would like to say the following to her NEXT
mugger, "Friend, I would not hurt you for the world. But, since
you started it, you are standing where I am about to shoot."
